Let Them Eat Cake!

Sweet shop baby Genevieve turns 1 today (I know, I can't believe it!), and I am so excited to share the gorgeous pictures Ali Moore took of her party. This past weekend, we threw a Marie Antoinette inspired soiree to celebrate.  Being born on Bastille Day and named Genevieve, I knew I wanted to have a French inspired theme. All things bows and over the top, Marie fit the bill.

Her baby blue eyes have dictated the color scheme of her life, light blue. For the backdrop arches, the leftover hydrangea wallpaper from her nursery was perfect. I was excited to find a use for it (and now you can rent them also!). The other one, I painted a loose ornate wall design. Blue balloons with bow accents framed the arches. I took the felt name garland out of her nursery because it was a great way to incorporate her name. I ordered it from the talented Ale & Poppy - highly recommend! I lucked out with the rug because it's been waiting to go in our playroom at home, but new puppy has put that on hold.

Setting a party table is one of my favorite things to do. I loved using the new Laduree collection, the colors are gorgeous and it works well for many things. The cake napkins were a fun play on the "Let them eat cake!" famous quote by Marie Antoinette. I laid out party crackers for party favors (kids always love popping those). Luckily, flowers were easy this time because I played on the hydrangea vibes and kept it simple.

Food was left to my go to experts for my girls' birthday. Cara from September Moon Cupcakery and I have been brainstorming these cakes and cupcakes for months! Wendi from Sweet Sugarlicious ran with my Marie Antoinette vision and her cookies were perfect. Loved how they both worked in hydrangeas, plus a French flair. The macarons were a fun surprise by my good friend (and bow expert) Caroline, owner of Avery & Grey. What can't that woman do? Popcorn hydrangeas were a fun idea I saved a long time ago off of Oh Happy Day blog

Entertaining children at parties is a must! Color sheets are an easy time filler. I found these adorable paper dolls on Etsy. Ornate hand mirrors were decorated with gemstones, and made for a good craft party favor.

Picture overload because I love this party so much! We had so much fun celebrating G. I've honestly been daydreaming about this party for a while, and seeing it come together was so much fun! Hopefully it inspires you to throw a French inspired fête!
